The D minor scale — also called D Aeolian — contains the notes D, E, F, G, A, Bb, and C.

Its diatonic chords are i (Dm), ii° (Edim), III (F), iv (Gm), v (Am), VI (Bb), and VII (C).

The natural minor scale — known in modal terms as Aeolian — is the default minor sound, melancholic and introspective. It shares all its notes with its relative major but centres them a minor third lower.
